Emek Shaveh’s virtual tour in the West Bank, addresses the political use of antiquity sites and their impact on Palestinian life in the Occupied Territories. We start with Susya, the first site excavated by Israel following the Six-Day War whose residents were forced to leave their homes. We continue to Tel Shiloh, a settlement that began as an archaeological excavation. Today, the site serves as a biblical theme park dedicated to the Mishkan (Tabernacle) and the historical rights of the Jewish people in their ancient homeland. The antiquities at the site are incidental and are only highlighted if they can contribute to the settler narrative. We conclude with Deir Kala’, located in the settlement of Peduel in Samaria, where expropriation orders were issued for Palestinian-owned land in 2020 under the pretext of preserving the archaeology at the site.

The tour will take place via Zoom on Wednesday, 3 of Febraury at 11 am (10 am CET).

During the tour we will also hear from the Palestinians residents who were evicted from their land. Following the filmed tour we will have an opportunity to hold a discussion.

A zoom link will be sent on the morning of the tour to registrants’ email addresses or phone numbers.
