Panel Discussion – the Old City after 1967

Marking 50 years since Israel occupied East Jerusalem, Emek Shaveh and the Journal of Arts, Culture and Society, Erev Rav, invite the public to a panel discussion with four of the first Israelis whose work shaped the Old City in the years that followed the 1967 war. The panel guests will talk about their memories from that period, their work in the Old City and will share their thoughts about Jerusalem in the present and future.

Panel guests are:
Meiron Benvinisti – who as the deputy mayor of Jerusalem between 1971-1978 administered East Jerusalem.
Ruth Cheshin – who was the secretary of the Jerusalem Foundation in 1967, and later became its director and president.
Architect Yaakov Ya’ar – member of the first Israeli planning team in the Old City and recipient of the Israel Prize
Archaeologist Hillel Geva – One of the first archaeologists who excavated in the Jewish Quarter

Panel host: Chemi Schiff from Emek Shaveh and the Planning for the Environment with Communities lab at Tel Aviv University.
